untl was founded in 2026 to offer a calmer alternative for time-related queries on the open web. The category was crowded with sites that prioritised advertising density over the answer the visitor came for. untl approaches the same set of needs from the opposite direction: the answer is the hero of every page, the design is restrained, and the calculations are exact.

The first release covered the seven weekdays, midnight, tomorrow, and three annual holidays. Subsequent releases will add more holidays in widely-spoken languages and traditions (Lunar New Year, Diwali, Eid, Independence Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Valentine's Day are next in the queue), plus expanded coverage of the time-tool suite.

Design language

Visual identity is built on a warm-neutral base, an orange accent reserved for the live countdown digits, and two typefaces: Schibsted Grotesk for display and interface text, and JetBrains Mono for the small uppercase labels around the clock. Both typefaces use tabular figures so the digits do not shift width as numbers tick over.

The brand mark is a single lowercase u on a dark rounded square with a thin horizontal split line at the 50% mark. The split line references the split-flap displays used in airport boards and older clock-radio displays, and underlines the brand's focus on countdown timing.

Calendar facts (Friday the 13th dates, leap-year information, day-of-week computations for holidays) are computed live in the browser from standard algorithms rather than copied from a reference source. Historical and cultural notes are written from primary references where possible and reviewed for accuracy before publication. Corrections are welcomed.

The brand does not use AI-generated images on its public surfaces; the visual identity is built entirely from typography and the design tokens described above. Where text is generated with assistance, it is reviewed and edited by a human before being published.
